The Festival that Never Sleeps

< Dominica- The World Creole Music Festival has become a highlight of Dominica’s calendar of events, taking place annually during the last weekend in October, which this year falls October 27-29. During this time, the island’s Creole language, music, dance and culture fills the air with an overall celebration of Dominica’s heritage.

The role of the World Creole Music Festival in Dominica continues to grow in importance each year, since tourism is now one of the main areas of economic development. The World Creole Music Festival is an outlet for local expression and economic opportunities. The Festival plays an integral part in influencing the local artists to publicize their talents while it also brings people from across the world together in one circle of Creole culture.
This year, the Dominica Festivals Commission is working on venue development, as well as improved stage presentations with performances from Wyclef Jean, Shaggy, Byron Lee and the Dragoniers , Tabou Combo, Carimi and several established International award winning performers, an HIV awareness campaign and memorable locations to visit on our beautiful island. This 10th annual Festival will provide more side acts and other performances apart from the World Creole Music Festival, including Creole in the North and East, the Miss Wob Dwiyet Show, Creole and All that Jazz, Cadance/Zoukmania and Creole in the Park. These changes will serve to develop the Festival’s atmosphere, increase Creole cultural awareness (especially through the Creole language) and allow participants to experience Dominica at a reasonable cost. The Dominica Festivals Commission has also taken the opportunity to introduce VIP sponsorship/seating arrangements for participants during all three nights.
The World Creole Music Festival is comprised of multiple shows that showcase the Creole language and the identity of different Creole nations with acts hailing from the Caribbean, the United States, Latin America and Africa. The shows are always exciting with refreshing rhythms, Creole Food and language. A number of performers from across the world have made contributions to the Festival over the years, including Carimi, Sakis, T-Vice, Tambou Combo, Kassav, Sizzla, Elephant Man, Rupee, Glen Washington, Marshall Montano, X-Tatik and Patrick St. Eloi. Local artists who have made appearances in the past include Michele Henderson, Exile One, Swinging Stars, WCK, Triple K and Grammacks.
Since the establishment of the Festival in 1997, both attendance and media attention have continued to expand at a rapid pace. Thanks to both successful marketing strategies of the Dominica Festivals Commission as well as the feeling of contentment that Creole music provides, the World Creole Music Festival only continues to expand.
There is something for everyone to do in Dominica during the three nights of the Festival. Participants can take advantage of fantastic sight seeing excursions where they will gain greater understanding and appreciation of the Nature Isle. The natural scenic beauty of Dominica, including the lakes, rivers, waterfalls and lush landscape, can all be experienced either at leisure or under the guidance of experienced tour operators. Come enjoy Dominica and the 10th Annual World Creole Music Festival – the festival that never sleeps.
